Summary

Blood (1997) gleefully dragged the shooter genre into a blood-soaked carnival of horror, humour, and absolute chaos. Starring the wisecracking undead gunslinger Caleb, it mixed breakneck action with traps, cultists, and levels packed with secrets and nasty surprises. Combat was fast, cruel, and unapologetically lethal, while weapons like dynamite and the voodoo doll encouraged creative mayhem. Beneath the splatter was smart level design and constant tension, rewarding sharp reflexes and curiosity. Blood was savage, stylish, and never afraid to laugh while pulling the trigger.

What it does well

Inventive weapons, excellent level design, dark humour, strong atmosphere, and a fearless commitment to excess.

Where it falls short

Punishing, with frequent cheap deaths, steep learning curve, and content that was not for everyone.

Verdict

A cult classic shooter that blended horror, humour, and ruthless difficulty into one of the most memorable PC experiences.
