"It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum - and I'm all out of gum". And if that doesn't tell you the kind of game you're getting into then nothing will!
With Doom kicking off the early 90s by showering us with a show-stopping feast of relentless first-person shoot-em-up action, it would be a couple of years before any potential challengers dared to enter the scene. Perhaps Doom's closest contender was 1996's Duke Nukem 3D, a riotously dark horror-comedy full of violent ambition. Exploding out of the relative obscurity of his previous platform incarnations, Duke now shows us what it's like to see the world directly through his eyes.
